"'Is it time for Mom to get Hearing Aids?' We began to notice when we would talk to our mother that she would often times look at the wrong person speaking sometimes and that some things had to be repeated and I found myself talking much louder than normal to her in person and on the phone. We noticed she could not hear the conversation when riding in the car in normal tones and could not hear the conversation when we went out to eat, thus missing out on the conversation and not participating in it. This all changed when she got her custom hearing aids from Dr. Suzanne Yoder at the HearWell Center, who spent an enormous amount of initial time testing, fitting and explaining everything for the entire hearing aid process, and then again when the hearing aids were ready, taking time to be sure mom was knowledgeable on her own to use them with confidence and ease. Dr. Yoder stressed that if any questions came up to let her know. Mom has had no trouble using them, cleaning them and changing the batteries. We noticed immediate improvement on the way home from Dr. Yoder’s office. Mom could hear our conversation in the car talking normally and she can now hear all of us at the table when we eat out and follow everyone’s conversation. The TV is no longer turned up as high. "My husband had gone to another hearing doctor for years. He had purchased 3 sets of hearing aids in the last ten years but when we went places together I knew by how he acted the he was not hearing well at all with them. "Thank you for the great explanations of my hearing situation and the wonderful new earpiece you made for me. As you know, I had heard about your practice through a person in our office after having been told by many, principally by my wife and children, that I should see an audiologist because I wasn't a very good listener. Thankfully, your excellent evaluation confirmed that, though I might have incurred some damage, perhaps as a result of working near heavy equipment without protection, it was not serious enough to warrant a hearing aid. "For a number of years my family complained about how loud I turned up the television and my excessive speaking volume. I was sure I did not have a hearing loss. But since I am blessed to have a daughter who is a gifted audiologist it wasn't too long until Suzanne wanted me to "help" her out and have my hearing tested.
My hearing loss is asymmetrical which is uncommon and therefore harder to diagnose. At the HearWell Center Suzanne used technically up-to-date equipment to do an in-depth examination. She took the time to match my needs with the best device for my loss. After I received my aid Suzanne worked with me to adjust settings until I was pleased. She also worked with me to find an ear mold that was comfortable in my ear.
Follow-up after my purchase has been exceptional. Sometimes a child has to do a little parenting of a parent and Suzanne had to scold me for not wearing my aid consistently in the beginning! Suzanne shared many tips and ideas which helped my adjustment to wearing a hearing device. When I do call with concerns she has been available to answer questions and has provided cleaning and checks on my aid's functioning. Being able to get batteries and other supplies directly from The HearWell Center saves me time and money and I know I have the right supplies for my device.
I know my daughter will provide the same comprehensive testing, attention to detail, excellent follow-up, and concern for the patient's hearing that she provided for me. So, in my opinion HearWell Center is the best place for hearing health in Western Pennsylvania."
